Eye Testing

Pysical eye examination should be carried out on all Labrador breeding stock on an annual basis.

The examination is conducted by a specialist certified in Veterinary Opthalmology who is registered on the panel with the British Veterinary Association and is permitted to undertake such examinations.

The test is required to check for acquired blindness. This is the part of Progressive retinal Atrophy that can develop over the course of a dog’s lifetime.

It is necessary for this test to be conducted on an annual basis. Furthermore the test must be clear.

All breeding animals should have the tests and be clear. Unfortunately this test (as with the genetic testing) is not a mandatory requirement. It is a decision made by responsible breeders who care about the welfare of their dog’s and the offspring that they produce.
